Markus Brück. Baritone.
The German baritone Markus Brück has been a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2001, and is singing the main roles of his repertoire there.
After his engagement as Einäugiger/“Frau ohne Schatten“ at the Salzburg Festival 2011, the new season will start with several productions and performances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, followed by the revival of “La Traviata”/Germont as well as a new production of “Rigoletto”/title (role debut) both at the Oper Köln and concerts with the RSB Berlin with Marek Janowski.
The following season includes role-debuts in the new productions of “Parsifal/Amfortas, “Peter Grimes”/Balstrode as well as “The Love for Three Oranges”/Leander, all taking place at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The season will end with his US-debut in a new production of the RING cycle (Donner/“Das Rheingold“ and Gunther/“Götterdämmerung“) at Seattle Opera.
In the 2010/11 season Markus Brück sang Egisto in Vittorio Gnecchis „Cassandra”, Michonnet/„Adriana Lecouvreur“, Baudricourt in „Jeanne d'Arc - Szenen aus dem Leben der Heiligen Johanna“ (Schlingensief production), Figaro/„Il Barbiere di Siviglia“, Chorèbe in a new production of „Les Troyens“ (David Pountney/Donald Runnicles“) as well as Wolfram/ „Tannhäuser“, Germont /„La Traviata“, Chrisogonus/„Germania“, Maurice de Lanjallay/„Marie Victoire“, Sharpless/“Madama Butterfly“, Conte Almaviva/“Le Nozze di Figaro“ and Marcello/“La Bohème“.
As soloist in Brahms’ „Ein Deutsches Requiem” Markus Brück has been highly acclaimed with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Donald Runnicles in Glasgow und in Edinburgh in February 2011, and in May 2011 at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the baton of Zubin Mehta.
Furthermore he appeared as Gunther in „Götterdämmerung“ at the Hamburg State Opera under the baton of Simone Young in April 2011, and in Mahler‘s „Das klagende Lied“ with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski in June 2011.
Guest engagements led the artist to the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, the Semperoper Dresden, the Oper Frankfurt, the Scala di Milano, the Opéra National de Paris, the State Operas in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart, the Volksoper Vienna and to Istanbul, Seoul and Tokyo.
Furthermore he sang at the Bayreuth and Bregenz Festival as well as at the Ruhrtriennale in Bochum where he was most impressing in the role of Paul Niemand in the world premiere of ”Unter Eis” (Arnecke) in 2007. In the 2009/10 season Markus Brück made his successful debuts at the Helsinki Opera as Conte Almaviva/”Le Nozze di Figaro” and at the Oper Köln as Posa/”Don Carlo”.
Markus Brück also regularly appears on the concert stage. He has been singing concerts at the Konzerthaus Berlin, with the Radiosinfonieorchester Dublin, the Hamburg Philharmonic, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra and at the KlangbogenFestival Vienna, among others.
The artist´s large repertoire includes also parts like Papageno/“Die Zauberflöte“, Fritz/“Die tote Stadt“, Ottokar/“Der Freischütz“, Faninal/“Der Rosenkavalier“, Malatesta/“Don Pasquale“, Silvio/“I Pagliacci“, Jake Wallace/“La Fanciulla del West“, Fra Melitone/“La Forza del Destino“, Enrico/“Lucia di Lammermoor“, Renato/“Un ballo in maschera“, Valentin/“Faust“, Albert/“Werther“ and Jeletzi/“Pique Dame“, Ford/“Falstaff“ and Beckmesser/“Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“.
Markus Brück works with conductors like Marc Albrecht, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Sylvain Cambreling, Christoph von Dohnányi, Riccardo Muti, Peter Schneider, Christian Thielemann, Marcello Viotti, Philippe Auguin and directors like Philippe Arlaud, Werner Herzog, Nigel Lowery, Jean-Louis Martinoty, David Pountney and Volker Schlöndorff.
The artist did a number of CD-recordings, e.g. with Mendelssohn’s ”Elias”, Margret Wolf’s ”Kirisk” and Britten’s ”War Requiem”.
In February 2011 Markus Brück received the honorary title of “Kammersänger” of Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Markus Brück studied voice at the Musikhochschule Mannheim/Heidelberg and the Musikhochschule Cologne with Prof. Dr. Alejandro Ramirez and Kammersänger Prof. Kurt Moll. After having started his career at the Theatre of Hagen, he became a member of the ensemble of the Opera House in Kaiserslautern and afterwards at the Theatre of Wiesbaden.
